Laura Jantunen: Paikantumaton (työnimi) – esitysdemo

Laura Jantusen Paikantumaton (työnimi) on suuntautumattomuuden kehollista tuntua tutkiva tanssiteos, jossa tunnistettava ja tunnistamaton, tiedetty ja ei-tiedetty sekä paikannettu ja paikantumaton ovat yhtä aikaa läsnä rinnakkaisina. Teoksen aihe syntyi tarpeesta löytää uusia selviytymiskeinoja epävakauteen, jonka sota, ilmastonmuutos ja polarisoituminen synnyttävät. Teosprosessin aikana suuntautumattomuus kohdataan huojuvana, uusia perspektiivejä avaavana ja luovana tilana, kuten tutkija Sara Ahmed kuvailee disorientaatiota teoksessaan Queer Phenomenology (2006). Teos ehdottaa, että sen sijaan, että pyrittäisiin kohti vakaata, tuttua ja turvallista olotilaa, antautuisimme hämmennyksen ja epävakauden aikaansaamalle huojuvuuden tunteelle.

Nykytaidetila Kutomon residenssin aikana koreografi Laura Jantunen työskentelee tanssijoiden Arttu Halmetoja, Pääsky Miettinen ja Pauliina Sjöberg kanssa teoksen liikemateriaalin parissa. Teoksen tanssi syntyy Jantusen kehittämän Somagics -liikeharjoitteen kautta. Somagicsin keskiössä on intiimi, yksityiskohtainen ja elävä suhde liikkujan omaan aistihavaintoon. Residenssin päätteeksi teoksesta esitetään demo Nykytaidetila Kutomolla Turun Taiteiden yönä 15.8.2024. Teoksen työryhmään kuuluvat myös säveltäjä Leevi Räsänen, joka säveltää teosta varten uutta musiikkia sekä äänisuunnittelija Mitja Nylund, valosuunnittelija Ilmari Paananen ja pukusuunnittelija Kasia Gorniak.

Dis/orientation (working title) by Laura Jantunen is a dance performance that explores the bodily sensation of disorientation, where the recognizable and unrecognizable, the known and unknown, and the located and unlocated are simultaneously present. The concept of dis/orientation arose from the need to find new ways of coping with the instability generated by war, climate change, and polarization. Throughout the process of creating the piece, disorientation is approached as a swaying, perspective-opening, and creative space, as described by researcher Sara Ahmed in her book Queer Phenomenology (2006). The performance proposes that instead of aiming toward a stable, familiar, and secure state, we would surrender to the swaying sensation caused by confusion and instability.

During the residency at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo, choreographer Laura Jantunen works on the movement material with dancers Arttu Halmetoja, Pääsky Miettinen, and Pauliina Sjöberg. The dance of the piece is created through Jantunen’s developed Somagics movement exercise. Somagics focuses on an intimate, detailed, and vivid relationship with the mover’s sensory perception. At the end of the residency, the working group presents a demo of the work at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo during the Night of the Arts in Turku on 15.8.2024. The team also includes composer Leevi Räsänen, who will compose new music for the piece, as well as sound designer Mitja Nylund, lighting designer Ilmari Paananen, and costume designer Kasia Gorniak.

Ehkä-production follows safer space guidelines. Unfortunately, the space at Contemporary Art Space Kutomo is not fully accessible; there are stairs and there are no accessible toilets at the venue.
