NoMad House 2022: The Rain Theatre – Mandarina Collective

In The Rain Theatre the science of cloud formation and rain making is blended with storytelling in a sensorial experience, supported by a magical scenography, analogue projected visuals and soundscapes that will transport the audience to the rainforest itself.

Water, coming from the abundant rains, is the blood that flows in the Amazon. Human action, ubiquitous nowadays not only alters essential natural mechanisms like the water cycle but also causes biodiversity loss, displaces indigenous communities, threatening knowledge and symbiotic ways of living with Nature. Combining storytelling with all our senses will translate into a universal language, as we aim to create awareness about one of the most important phenomena that takes place in the Amazon, and elsewhere: Rain.

This performance is a multi-sensorial experience targeted to children accompanied by an adult (children’s recommended age is 3-8 years old). It aims to bring the science of cloud formation and rain making closer to such young audiences. We believe in the format 1 child + 1 adult in order to create spaces for families and intergenerational bridges and invite not only parents, but grandparents, older siblings, uncles/aunts…to join children in this journey that combines participatory science experimentation, storytelling and visual and sound arts.
